Judicial System Supporting Freedom
What role do judges and the judicial system play in supporting freedom? Judges and the judicial system play one of the most important roles when it comes to supporting freedom. There would be no freedom without laws restricting others from infringing on ones freedom and laws which protect an individual’s freedom. Although the laws to restrict and protect are immensely important and necessary they would mean absolutely nothing without a system to enforce them. The judicial system applies the law to each separate case. Due to every case being treated individually by the judicial system it also creates a certain degree of freedom. If cases were al treated in the same manner as every other case that would eliminate any type of freedom to defend or prosecute a case freely within the law. Other than being able to handle a case freely judges and the judicial system practice freedom by hearing cases about actual laws. The laws concerning abortion, gun control and religious practices all went through the court systems in order to determine the fairness and circumstances’ where they are needed to be restricted. it is because of the judges and judicial system that a woman has the freedom to practice abortion, or if a man has the freedom to uphold a religion publically. The courts are considered both powerful and weak when compared to other branches of government, as said by The Politics of Power (p. 238). This must also mean they play an equal part in supporting freedom as do the other two branches. In order to support freedom a system must have equal views and actions of fairness. Thus reaching a conclusion that to bring freedom to all sometimes individuals will feel as if he or she is being treated unfair; not to say individuals are being treated unfair, but can one really have complete freedom in every aspect of life without infringing on another individual’s freedom even in the tiniest measure? I do not believe so. This is why judges must apply the laws to individual cases and the judicial system should keep the laws precise and have equal consequences for varied infringements. This makes the judicial system of most importance when supporting freedom.

When I look at this blog I see the mission of the blog to be to simply pass the class. I say this not necessarily as a bad thing after all that is the reason everyone is taking a class rather than simply learning on their own time is for a grade and eventually a degree. I just mean on the blog there is no real outside research or anymore thought put into the blog than what is written in the book. I also say that the mission of the blog is for a grade because some of the titles are nothing more than "Chapter 7 Congress."
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to the strengths of the blog I would say that clearly she is technologically savvy in terms of making the blog look very professional and interesting. She goes with a simple professional looking black background with white text. This makes it very easy to read and thus easier to follow along with all of her points. On the right side she has pictures that look organized so that they add to the blog without making it look cluttered. So I would really say the strength of this blog is the layout and appearance aspect of the blog.
When it comes to weaknesses I would really say that the fact that there are no outside sources and at the fact that there is only two real posts take away the credibility of the blogger. I think there is the bare bones of a really good blog here but more effort just needs to be put into the written portion to better inform the reader in terms of what is going on with the issue being covered. I think this is actually not a very difficult step it will just take a little more time to google some of the issues. So to me the lack of content is the number one weakness with this that with a little more effort can easily be corrected.
Overall, I think this blog has a lot of potential, but is simply not cashing in on that potential. The blogger has some good ideas and has a great layout, but it being held back by a simple lack of effort. This is unfortunate and I see great things for this blog if a little more effort is put into it.
